This chart illustrates the child gender ratios by state and union territory in terms of females per thousand males. The Indian national average of about 918 is shown relative to the rest of the country. As seen, the highest ratio is the state of Arunachal Pradesh with 972; Haryana, the lowest value on the chart, has a ratio of 834. A normal ratio at birth is about 952, and, while the statistic provided by the Census is not the ratio at birth, the child gender ratio can potentially also be indicative of areas that have the problem of female infanticide, as girls in areas with the problem would be missing, driving down the overall ratio.
